A Short Message from uncle Ong

Ong Ah Hai, 70 elaborating a banner in Mandarin to Bahasa Melayu.

"bersatulah pelbagai bangsa, Bangunlah, kita sama-sama mari mempertahankan kampung kita dan budaya kita".

He is among local people who gather in fishing village of Pengerang in Johor for the 'Himpunan Hijau Lestari Pengerang' (Pengerang Sustainable Green Rally) against a nearby oil refinery project on September 30, 2012.

Local residents, had complained that they were not consulted and they feared that the massive project would adversely impact the environment, their health and their livelihood.

The RM60 billion Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project would eventually occupy 9,000 hectares of land, affecting at least 15 villages in the area at the southern tip of Johor.
